Action opens 1,000th store of Europe in Gorinchem
On Saturday October 21, Mrs Reinie Melissant, Mayor of the Dutch town of Gorinchem officially opened the 1,000th Action store in the Arkelstraat in Gorinchem. “This new Action store is a wonderful addition to the shopping area in the centre of our town. Action attracts a lot of customers and therefore is very welcome,” said the Mayor.
“Every week we attract millions of customers throughout Europe with our unique formula of a broad and ever-changing range of products at the lowest prices in a convenient shopping environment with friendly employees. Opening the 1,000th Action store is a milestone that makes us very proud. We grew from a Westfriesian family owned business to an international retailer with over 38,000 employees and stores in seven countries. About two thirds of our stores are now located outside of The Netherlands, ” says Director Store Operations Hajir Hajji, who joined Action in 1997 as a store employee in the 13th store and is now responsible for all the Action stores.
The new store in the Arkelstraat employs 35 people, mainly from the region. Besides the store in Gorinchem, this week Action opened eight new stores in Germany, France, Poland and Belgium.
Last year Action added 197 stores and this year the company expects to open significantly more than 200 stores. Action now operates 361 stores in The Netherlands, 301 in France, 176 in Germany, 144 in Belgium, 13 in Austria, 3 in Luxemburg and this month Action opened its first two stores in Poland.
