Action enters the Czech Republic
Europe’s fastest-growing non-food discounter opens its first Czech stores in Hradec Králové and Kladno today – three more are to follow in the Moravia-Silesia region.
Action, the international non-food discounter, has opened its first two stores in the Czech Republic today. The stores in Hradec Králové and Kladno will be followed by three more openings in the Moravia-Silesia region during the first two weeks of September, in Ostrava, Opava and Frýdek-Místek. Action successfully surprises customers with a broad, ever-changing assortment and the lowest prices in over 1,600 stores across Europe.
The Czech Republic has a new player on the retail market. Action is a fast-growing international non-food discount retailer which started in the Netherlands in 1993. Its concept has already proven successful in seven countries: the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany, Austria, Poland and France. Action is now taking its first steps into ‘its’ eighth country.
“The Czech Republic is a very interesting country for us. Not only is it close to existing markets and can easily be integrated into our supply chain. It’s an economically strong country with a good infrastructure and Czech customers tend to be cost-conscious, whilst appreciating good quality products. That is why we believe that Czech customers will embrace our concept with our low prices and Action’s surprising and dynamic product range,” says Sander van der Laan, Action CEO.
“We are happy to welcome our first Czech customers in Hradec Králové and Kladno, today. Over the past months, our employees worked together towards this day with excitement. Both locations are the perfect starting point for our market entrance into the Czech Republic. They are located in fantastic, varied retail environments, offering a modern ambience and lots of parking spaces to guarantee our customers a convenient shopping experience,” adds Monique Groeneveld, General Manager Start-Up countries, who is currently in charge of the Czech Republic.
"Not only Europe, but the whole world is dealing with today's challenging times that have restricted development, restricted the economy, restricted business. The good news is that some companies like Action are still expanding their businesses despite these difficult conditions. I believe that Action will thrive in the beautiful city of Hradec Králové, which was the first we chose to continue our development path, and we will be more than satisfied here,” said Monika Štayrová, First Deputy Major of Hradec Králové, during the grand opening of the first store.
"With about 6,000 products on the shelves, Action offers a broad range of products at low prices - at least 1,500 products sold in Action stores cost less than CZK 25. Surprise is a key element of the shopping experience in Action stores. Czech customers will now experience this excitement first-hand: two-thirds of the assortment changes constantly, with over 150 new items introduced each week. – The product range, with items from over 350 well-known brands and more than 70 private labels, consists of 14 categories: decoration, DIY, toys and entertainment, stationery and hobby, multimedia, household goods, garden and outdoor, laundry and cleaning, pet, sport, clothing and linen.
Action announced its entry into the Czech market at the beginning of 2020 and the discounter's expansion in the country will be rapid. Action’s three Moravian-Silesian stores will open within the next two weeks: the stores in Opava and Frýdek-Místek will open on September 3 and the Ostrava store opens on September 10. “Like many other companies, we had to adapt our plans for 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Now, however, we are successfully fulfilling our expansion strategy for the Czech Republic, with five stores to be opened within a short time,” says Sander van der Laan. “At the same time, we would like to assure our customers and employees that their safety is our top priority. People can enjoy shopping at our stores with peace of mind thanks to our stringent safety and hygiene measures.” Every store will employ approx. 15 employees.
