New distribution centre

and 300 stores in Germany

300 stores and a second distribution centre for Action in Germany

On Wednesday, the international retail company Action officially opened its new distribution centre in Peine, Lower Saxony. It is the second logistics centre for Action in Germany and the seventh in total. With a surface area of around 90,000 square metres, the new distribution centre will serve as the basis for the company’s further growth in northern, eastern and central Germany as well as in Poland. The distribution centre was built in cooperation with real estate investor Dietz AG. In addition, on April 18, Action will celebrate the opening of its 300th store in Germany.

With more than 1,350 stores in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Austria and Poland, Action is one of the fastest growing non-food discounters in Europe. Also in Germany, Action is developing well: this month, the 300th store will open in Wiefelstede, Lower Saxony.
“With our continued growth comes a logistic challenge that requires a solid supply chain”, highlights Steffen Rosenbauer, Managing Director of Action Germany, on the occasion of the opening of the second distribution centre in Germany: "This logistics building is centrally located in the North of the country and is well connected to highways, which makes it a prime location for supplying existing and future stores in North, Central and East Germany, as well as in Poland. On 95,000 pallet spaces our entire product range can be stored", says Rosenbauer. "The opening of this distribution centre represents another important milestone in our expansion. It shows that we have settled in Germany, that our customers value us and it will enable us to continue growing".

In the long term and at full capacity, the new distribution centre may create up to 800 jobs in the Peine region. It will be operated by the global logistics service provider Neovia Logistics. The logistics building was developed by the real estate investor Dietz AG and is owned by the property company Tritax EuroBox plc, in which Dietz AG holds a minority share.

Action firmly established in Germany

Action's concept is simple and popular amongst customers: a broad and continuously changing product range at the lowest price. Action offers its customers more than 6,000 articles in 14 different categories. Every week more than 150 new articles are introduced in the stores. Within the scope of the customer award “Retailer of the Year 2018 / 2019”, Action was once more elected winner in the categories "houseware" and "home accessories and gifts".

With roughly 300 stores, more than 5,000 employees and two distribution centres in Germany, the non-food discounter has firmly established itself in the German retail landscape. "This would not have been possible without our customers. We are pleased to see that for many of them Action is not only a provider of everyday goods. They see our stores as a welcome diversion and source of inspiration. Many customers come to the stores regularly to discover new products or they exchange views and experiences on products or share ideas for DIY hacks and home decoration in independent fan groups on the internet", explains Rosenbauer. "This is exactly what drives us! In Germany we are planning many more store openings in the future."
